Welcome Dog Lovers!  Our very special guest today is Nicole Lindsley, who is the owner of Steve's Real Food, a raw pet food company that provides pet food made from fresh whole foods in order to mimic the ancestral diet. Nicole's focus is on developing programs to help educate retailers and pet parents about the benefits of a raw, whole food diet.

Nicole, could you start by sharing with us what is High Pressure Processing or HPP?

Nicole, you are a HPP advocate, but HPP is controversial.  Some view it as an effective way to eliminate disease-causing bacteria while having only minimal effect on the integrity of the finished product.  Yet others believe raw foods that have undergone HPP have been altered to the point they can no longer be considered raw.  What are your thoughts?

Why did Steve’s Real Food decide to use HPP?

How long have you been using HPP?

What has the feedback been from your long-time clients?

Does this add to the cost of your products?

Can you walk us through the actual process?

Does HPP effect the nutritional qualities, taste, sight or smell of the food?

Those opposed to HPP argue…Proteins are denatured, some beneficial bacteria may also be destroyed, it can’t protect the food against recontamination after processing.  Thoughts?

You’ve conducted extensive nutrient testing on HPP raw meat diets and non-HPP raw meat diets.  What have your findings been?

And what about your testing for enzymes?  What were the results?

Are more and more companies adding HPP as a manufacturing step?

Do you believe that the FDA will ever change its position on raw diets being more prone to pathogens?

Nicole, can you briefly tell us about Steve’s and what makes your products different from others on the market?

Is your team working on anything new?

Where can people find your products? https://www.stevesrealfood.com/
